Common - “Universal Mind Control”
[The Album]

I love Common, I worship Common after all is there a anybody in this wretched world who doesn't. I own most of his albums. He always delivers and he always do so in his own way. I like this album a lot. I think he did his thing in the studio with The Neptunes. I will say that I'm not sure if I like it as much as his last album----that album was amazing. But yeah...
Below: Common's 8th studio album track by track.

Universal Mind Control - The beat is hypnotic (clearly The Neptunes can't lose).
The moment I heard this record I had high expectations for this record.

Punk Drunk Love - This is a decent track. I don't love it, don't hate it. I may dig it in the future.
I feel like Kanye was just thrown in.

Make My Day - The BEST SONG ON THIS RECORD if only because I think Ceelo is king.
But no, this song is a smash.

Sex 4 Sugar -
This track is okay...
The rhymes are kinda weak to me...Common is better than this.
Then again what do I know...No actually, I stand by my comment.
He is much better than this.

Announcement - This could possibly be my new shit.
I love this one. Heard it before and I loved it then.

Gladiator - This song sounds like the Common of albums past.
The production is meaty and the rhymes are effortless.

Changes - You gotta do an Obama record! LOL.
I don't know...to me it is a little cheesy.

Inhale - I like it.

What A World - FUCK YES! Chester French!
This is my second favorite track. D.A. & Max funk it up.

Everywhere - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I think is is incredible. Insanely good.

Common - “Universal Mind Control” Video

This is the lead single from Common's eighth studio album of the same name.
Common said:
"I created this music for the summer time, it's about feeling good...
this is the type of music I felt was missing from my body of work."
This pop-lock-robot-futuroso video was directed by legendary director Hype Williams.
Common's album is set to drop November 11, 2008.
He worked with Pharrell, Chester French, Ceelo, & Kanye West.

This Week's "Kool Kid..." Vid Pik.

This video is definitely one of my favorites. An all-star cast, the song is hot, and the concept is sexy & dirty. It was co-directed by Kerry Washington.
Here is some of the making the video. Gives a little background info.

VMA 2007

Smoking Gun: Bullets on STYLE
• MTV Correspondent John Norris is approximately 107 years old.
• Lil’ Mama arrived clad in cabbage patch, purple bubble coat with tea-cup bottom—apparently she called it the birth of hip-hop (w/ a pacifier to top it off)
• Alicia Keys stepped fresh off the set of the new Matrix movie.
• Nelly Furtado was a stunning blond coke whore.
• Rihanna super sexy in tight fighting pink number.
• Eve had a bad weave I think but her dress was hot.
• Mary J. was purely hood chic.
• Nicole Scherzinger smoking hot, really great performer (she actually sang and dance)
• Lil Wayne had a nice on liner “can’t pronounce her last name so it should be mine.”
• Common is completely uncommon and looked like Hollywood royalty.
• Shia Lebeouf was stylish and debonair.
• Gym Class Heroes looked the same they stayed true their style
• Jennifer Hudson dress was very flattering but she should’ve gave Kelly Rowland her wig back.
• Ludacris looked like an original gangsta, very trendy suit and his haircut was snazzy.
• Paris Hilton looked like her mom.
• Kanye had the Tux look—it was simple—I guess it worked.
• Neyo looked like the hamburglar/pirate.
• Ceelo wore a tablecloth.
• Beyonce was Helen of Troy with a snatchback [Tacky Tina has struck again]

Smoking Gun: Bullets on THE SHOW
• Britney Spears was an absolute disappointment. I’m not sure what was going on but I could tell she wasn’t feeling it. She didn’t seem to care. She was the worst part of her own performance. I will say her dancers, the pole dancers, lights, and set design were all incredible and this could have been a smash, sadly it wasn’t.
• Sarah Silverman is simply a bitch.
• The rest of the show was a sloppy mess.
• Poor transitions and over too much chaos.
• Chris Brown’s performance was a smash (even though him not attempting to sing was troubling). He did well the only thing I didn’t like was his little MJ bit—I think this obsession with Michael Jackson is over-rated and I’ve seen too many people do that Billie Jean routine.

Common Finds Forever ...

If you are not familiar with Common, you probably have poor taste in music. It’s not your fault, but that doesn’t mean you should sit idly twiddling your thumbs. Acquaint yourself with this eclectic lyricist. His newest album aptly titled “Finding Forever” is an earnest effort that showcases his trademark blend of smooth hip-hop/soul/spoken word/ g.o.o.d. music.

“Intro” is a whimsical delight that captures, soothes, and relaxes a perfect prelude to “Let’s Start the Show”, a head bobbing hip-hop anthem with sharp lyrics.
“The People” is the first single from this album, the production and Common’s flow is well blended—not to mention the video is simple and genuine and about, well— the people.

At this point there is a transition in the album, Lily Allen joins Common for the song “Drivin Me Wild”. This collabo is a smash. The song chronicles the demise of two typical types. The 20-something-female-obsessed with finding a man with money looking in all the wrong places and always coming up a day late and a dollar short & and a 20-something male who uses material nonsense to stunt. The harmonious and cherubic sounds of Lily Allen’s voice complement the tone of this track, I will call this one my favorite collabo on the album.
Hitting us with another smash collabo, this time Will.I.Am lends his sound to the track “I Want You” it’s infectious beat, this seductive song is a expression of Common’s monster macking skills. Not mushy at all, it’s raw and romantic and has an organic live sound.

“U, Black Maybe” is a reminder of his sincere & conscious lyrics—this one doesn’t disappoint. It’s message is as stated at the end of the track :“When we talk about Black maybe, we talking about situations of people of color, and because you are that color you endure obstacles and opposition, not all the time from other nationalities, sometime it come from your own kind or maybe even your own kind.” This is the best track on this album—I think, therefore it is.

From this point on the album transitions seamlessly with smooth grooves featuring D’Angelo and on through the finale “Forever Begins” a hauntingly inspirational track, that leaves the listener feeling rejuvenated and full of food for thought.

This album is worth a purchase, and a few hundred rotations.
