This weekend was pretty nifty.
I watched a lot of movies that I'd been meaning to see.
Hung out with friends.
Went to the Mall.
Had breakfunch on Sunday morning with my writing partner.
Had dinner with my mom Sunday (today).
Good Weekend.


Revolutionary Road:
F*cking good movie. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were mesmerizing in this film.
It was intensely emotional and raw. When they fought I felt like one of their children,
listening to them scream and destroy each other with tears welling in my eyes.
It's the mainstream equivalent to Baby Boy set in the 1950's---sike. It's good as hell though.

The Secret Life of Bees:
made me cry.
twice.
I don't cry.
period.
movies rarely make me cry.
this one did.
nuff said.



Doubt:
Meryl Streep is Sister Aloysius Beauvier.
It's Meryl Streep! She killed this part.
VIOLA DAVIS owned this movie though, she was incredible.

Twilight:
it was cool...didn't blow me away.
i enjoyed it though.

Alicia Keys is a beautiful spirit. This video is simply brilliant.

The Grammy Award show is sort of a gift and a curse. Sometimes you're proud and elated when hard-working artist receive the accolades they deserve, then sometimes they just fuck up. This year was no different. Alicia Key, Prince, Rihanna, and several other notable artist all sported this cockatoo chic hairstyle...I think it works...*avoids eye contact*...Tina Turner looked like the poster child for Botox and Boobs...Beyonce did ok, I wasn't really impressed...Kanye's performance was visually stunning, and is a great preview for his tour I'm assuming, plus Daft Punk is the shit...Alicia Keys was spellbounding...Aretha Franklin was ummm, let's just say she had a lot of stage presence. I hated how the producers of the show cut Kanye off during his speech...but then again, he doesn't really have much respect for people during their speeches, remember that fiasco with J.U.S.T.I.C.E. at the MTV Europe Awards...All the same, it was kinda messed up.BUT Amy Winehouse's acceptance speech was the BEST! In these technologically savvy times, selling music in mass numbers has posed a difficult challenge for recording artist and labels. Some offer incentives for buying the album (i.e. bonus DVDs, special posters, free ringtones) even though the results are iffy. Alicia Key’s sits atop the upper echelon of music with a regal glow and a gracious expression. Not only did “As I Am” sell 742,000 but the album is a masterpiece. Her striking, passionate vocals, and the soulful innovation used to produce this album made this a remarkable addition to her discology. “No One” wasn’t a song that I like upon first listen. It was a departure from my perception of Alicia Keys. Then I read an article in Entertainment Weekly that explained how she wasn’t singing for vocal perfection or demure appeal, she was singing from her heart and soul--fortifying each lyric with passion.

My favorite tracks are “Wreckless Love” and “Teenage Love Affair”. These are two of the more upbeat tracks--two words "simply delicious". “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” is a beautiful ballad that stresses the importance of appreciating the love you have and never taking it for granted:

Would you cherish what we had?
Was it everything that you were looking for?
If I couldn’t feel your touch
And no longer were you with me

This album gives an exquisite experience for the ears, and also offers some life lessons. The numbers don’t lie. Buy this one, & savor it.

This video is definitely one of my favorites. An all-star cast, the song is hot, and the concept is sexy & dirty. It was co-directed by Kerry Washington.

Smoking Gun: Bullets on STYLE
• MTV Correspondent John Norris is approximately 107 years old.
• Lil’ Mama arrived clad in cabbage patch, purple bubble coat with tea-cup bottom—apparently she called it the birth of hip-hop (w/ a pacifier to top it off)
• Alicia Keys stepped fresh off the set of the new Matrix movie.
• Nelly Furtado was a stunning blond coke whore.
• Rihanna super sexy in tight fighting pink number.
• Eve had a bad weave I think but her dress was hot.
• Mary J. was purely hood chic.
• Nicole Scherzinger smoking hot, really great performer (she actually sang and dance)
• Lil Wayne had a nice on liner “can’t pronounce her last name so it should be mine.”
• Common is completely uncommon and looked like Hollywood royalty.
• Shia Lebeouf was stylish and debonair.
• Gym Class Heroes looked the same they stayed true their style
• Jennifer Hudson dress was very flattering but she should’ve gave Kelly Rowland her wig back.
• Ludacris looked like an original gangsta, very trendy suit and his haircut was snazzy.
• Paris Hilton looked like her mom.
• Kanye had the Tux look—it was simple—I guess it worked.
• Neyo looked like the hamburglar/pirate.
• Ceelo wore a tablecloth.
• Beyonce was Helen of Troy with a snatchback [Tacky Tina has struck again]


Smoking Gun: Bullets on THE SHOW
• Britney Spears was an absolute disappointment. I’m not sure what was going on but I could tell she wasn’t feeling it. She didn’t seem to care. She was the worst part of her own performance. I will say her dancers, the pole dancers, lights, and set design were all incredible and this could have been a smash, sadly it wasn’t.
• Sarah Silverman is simply a bitch.
• The rest of the show was a sloppy mess.
• Poor transitions and over too much chaos.
• Chris Brown’s performance was a smash (even though him not attempting to sing was troubling). He did well the only thing I didn’t like was his little MJ bit—I think this obsession with Michael Jackson is over-rated and I’ve seen too many people do that Billie Jean routine.
