I've been uninspired, the notoriously temperamental winters of Atlanta mixed with the often task-less days of my break have left me in a dire state of musical confusion. The Dream's album is pretty good--Janet & Britney are always in rotation. I hum M.I.A. "Paper Planes" while I iron, & I eat/sleep/ and live for the Cool Kids [pedal down--u know the rest]. At even that slightest whisper of Janelle Monae, my toe taps.
Don't get me wrong I'm content...I guess even happy, but I want more...
It feels like a relationship that lacks spice, prompting a sudden urge for audio infidelity. My ears have a mind of their own, at even the slightest hint of new music or artist they perk and my palms begin to sweat. Sometimes I'm consumed by temptation so intensely that I find myself online looking on imeem, and mtv, scrounging around looking for a quick hook up. I'm not proud of it, but I even went so far as to go to Best Buy and aimlessly wander the music section.Temptation, lurks within...Sometimes I just wanna grab some headphones and get down! With this in mind, I see that though I have a firm bond with my current play-list, I can't commit fully without exploring alternative means of audio satisfaction. After some serious conversations with myself, an open relationship is feasible...Now that the guilt is gone...alls I need is some sideline action...Serious inquiries only, please send stats, label, and genre. No pedestrians.

John Legend legend has launched his own record label

I caught a glimpse of some of his artist on TVone a few weeks ago. It was a great concert. I've had the immense pleasure of seeing John Legend live [w/ Robin Thicke] and it was an incredible night to say the least. I saw Estelle's video in rotation on MTV. I like it, it's a like soul mixed with MOD fashion, locked in a smokehouse and cured with a seasoning blend of spice, juke joint jazz and British Hip Hop. 2008 may be their year, only time will tell. check it out.

I've been on these cats for a few months now. I don't know what to say. I've listened to them non stop for the past week or so. They are sick with it. I’ve been bound and gagged by final exams but I found the time to sneak off with some fellow Janelle Monaè fans to celebrate her birthday. Let me start off by saying I love my apartment; it’s on Central Ave and seems to be the central launch pad everything. The Royal is a mere three blocks from my apartment— before I could say “Damn, I should’ve brought a jacket” I was paying the cover and getting patted down. We arrived early (10:00-ish), grabbed the closest booth, started chilling hard & and observing outfits. Hels & I decided to imbibe a bit. The bar was bountiful (Karen Walker Seal of Approval®). The libations were moderately priced & oxen strong. The DJ was spinning Dungeon Family and Outkast like it was 1999. It’s funny how certain songs take you back. I got super geeked when he played some COOLKids—that’s my shit. After a two rounds Hels & I ended up on the dance floor dancing to savagely to the 80’s hit “Nasty Girl”. It was lightly sprinkled with takers, and as time elapsed it slowly filled. The Royal isn’t quite like other spots I try. It’s a narrow, but huge. The furnishings are romantic with a hint of southern inspiration and just a teaspoon of Andy Warhol for a neo-contemporary flavor.
There were some notable names there like Michael Knight. The Royal is not for the gangsters or for the yuppies. It’s a bit less pretentious, I felt. It’s like a smoothie—you have a little banana, a little strawberry, one or two blueberries, and some crushed pineapple to make a delicious beverage. The crowd is diverse, laidback, and non-pedestrian. Everyone there was simply there to have a good time (good not hood) and celebrate Janelle’s Birthday. Jane was stunning and dressed to kill as usual. Her radiant glow and positive energy made my night. Plus I got to do the electric slide—that’s always a bonus. By 2:10 I was fatigued, parched, and famished but I continued to groove to the Jackson 5. Fast forward to 2:30 we said farewell to the night and found our way home in fear of too many of us collapsing at one time and not having a way home.

In these technologically savvy times, selling music in mass numbers has posed a difficult challenge for recording artist and labels. Some offer incentives for buying the album (i.e. bonus DVDs, special posters, free ringtones) even though the results are iffy. Alicia Key’s sits atop the upper echelon of music with a regal glow and a gracious expression. Not only did “As I Am” sell 742,000 but the album is a masterpiece. Her striking, passionate vocals, and the soulful innovation used to produce this album made this a remarkable addition to her discology. “No One” wasn’t a song that I like upon first listen. It was a departure from my perception of Alicia Keys. Then I read an article in Entertainment Weekly that explained how she wasn’t singing for vocal perfection or demure appeal, she was singing from her heart and soul--fortifying each lyric with passion.

My favorite tracks are “Wreckless Love” and “Teenage Love Affair”. These are two of the more upbeat tracks--two words "simply delicious". “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” is a beautiful ballad that stresses the importance of appreciating the love you have and never taking it for granted:

This album gives an exquisite experience for the ears, and also offers some life lessons. The numbers don’t lie. Buy this one, & savor it.

If you're on the prowl for a wild night. Compound is urban jungle that aims to please. It's a standard spot for many because of the it's urban hip crowd and banging beats. Located off Brady Street it's where you want to be on a Friday night. The DJ's don't disappoint blending beats like bartenders. Compound is full of beautiful people, sipping, jigging and being sexy. Don't come half stepping either because the dress code is strictly enforced. Forget the baggy jeans and tees. The ladies come looking fabulous and the fellas come fly and fresh. Compound is a hot spot filled to the top with movers and shakers around Atlanta. It's beyond grown and sexy with everything you could want in a club: dope music, smooth drinks, and sexy people. Compound is like a Hype Williams music video it's crisp, fresh, and every body is talking about it.


Not into the club crowd? Just looking to chill? Lotus Lounge offers a relaxed atmosphere in conjunction with a look of luxury and location know for it's palatial pulchritude. Lotus Lounge is diverse it's like a UN meeting if you add some mood lighting and take away the discussion of international relations. The building flows like a series of lucid rhymes. The music is as diverse as the crowd, with everything for Old School like Run DMC to Reggae to Britney Spears. You don't have to come stunting, the attire is still grown and sexy but it's not a fashion show. This no pressure environment allows for maximum opportunity to to relax and enjoy some friends. Lotus Lounge great for really getting to know somebody and vibing with some cool people.

Saturday I accompanied two of my favorite folks to Pure. Doyle is friends with a promoter and he put us on the list. Nestled in a small grove of Euro restaurants off of Clairmont road, Pure, like all clubs doesn't look like much on the outside. BUT once we stepped in the atmosphere almost made us stumble (without having a single shot). Draped in red tapestries and a mix of silver and black furnishings we were spellbound by a barrage of smoke and mirrors that hit us like a big yellow school bus. It was full of sexy singles ready to mingle. the crowd was mixed mostly salt and some pepper. The thumping techno grooves saturated the entire club setting a sexy tone, but the dance floor was empty for a solid hour. Two buxom blondes emerged from the back corridors (scantily clad of course). The go-go'ed their way to the dance floor and performed their provocative (and slightly off beat routines)...shortly there after the floor slowly sprinkled with a few tipsy takers and after about an hour or so the floor was full. The DJ was on acid, he mixed oil and water all night, and for the most part it worked. I give my evening two thumbs up. thanks for the shot Hels.
