Karin Dreijer of The Knife presents...

This freaks me the f*ck out but for some reason I cannot stop watching it.
I'm going to do a little more research on The Knife, I hear they are notoriously
unwilling to cooperate with the media. When they make a rare public appearance
they do so clad elaborately decorated masks...I'm intrigued.

K'Naan

|free download. |K'Naan in the News.
[Critics have said K'naan has "a sound that fuses Bob Marley, conscious American hip hop, and brilliant protest poetry."His voice and style have been compared to Eminem, but his subject matter is very different; according to K'naan, he makes "urgent music with a message", talking about the situation in his homeland of Somalia and calling for an end to violence and bloodshed. He specifically tries to avoid gangsta rap clichés and posturing, saying: "All Somalis know that gangsterism isn't to brag about. The kids that I was growing up with [in Rexdale] would wear baggy [track] suit pants, and a little jacket from Zellers or something, and they'd walk into school, and all the cool kids would be like, 'Ah, man, look at these Somalis. Yo, you're a punk!' And the other kid won't say nothing, but that kid, probably, has killed fifteen people."This statement was made to explain his position on the world of difference which exists between where he grew up, and the ghettos of the first world. Nonetheless, K'naan denies that he is overtly political, instead explaining that he "[shows] the state of the world [and] if you call it like it is you're being political."His own opinion of his music is that it's a "mix of tradition and [a] kind of articulation of my own life and [..] my past experiences."] --Wikipedia (of course.)

Where the Sidewalk Ends

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Film Studies: Director Spotlight on...Little X

Little X, (born Julien Christian Lutz in 1975), is a Canadian music video director of Trinidadian heritage.
His mother, a Trinidadian and his father of Swiss descent. He has two

sisters and ten aunts on his mom's side. A protégé of Hype Williams, Little X has been noted
for his high-budget, visually distinctive videos for popular music singles, including Mystikal's
"Shake That Ass" and "Danger! (Been So Long)", "Georgy Porgy" by Eric Benét & Faith Evans,
No Sex in the Champagne Room by Chris Rock and Gerald Levert, and Usher's "U Got It Bad"
& "U Don't Have to Call", Mario Let Me Love You, among many others. One of his trademarks is
tweaking the letterbox format; instead of simply using black bars on the top and bottom of the
frame to frame the image, many videos by Little X feature the bars opening vertically to reveal
the video and closing vertically at the end. His private corporation is the simply referred to as
"The Sun God Collection".

Was to direct now defunct vampire feature "Razorwire". He was represented by HSI
Productions and is currently represented by DNA - David Naylor and Associates.

Also goes by the names Mr. X and Lil' X or just X.

He attended both Mayfield Secondary School and North Park Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario.

Perhaps his most successful work yet came as the director for the music video of Usher's global hit, Yeah!

Chester French: The Holiday Mix

On NYE I got an email from D.A. Wallach of dynamic duo CF.
I felt special even though I know it was a mass email for VIP List people.
Anyshmo, long story short he attached the link to this amazing mixape
he and Max compiled. It is a great compilation of "music that we've found
most inspiring over the prior 12 months. "
He thanked all their supporters,
said they were wrapping up production on their debut disk, and they
expressed how honored they were to work with Common.
I can't wait for that record. Actually, I can because I have to but if
I didn't I wouldn't.Ugh, you know what I mean.

Sneaky Sound System

Just a few moments ago I finally got my hands on some Sneaky Sound System.
I found them by happenstance. I wanted to know the female vocalist on Kanye's
"Flashing Lights". I went to wikipedia and found out it was Connie Mitchell of the
Austrailian electronica group Sneaky Sound System. I did some research, blah blah
blada blah blah. I got their albums and some of their videos.

it's SUPER.

[Sneaky Sound System are Sydney trio Miss Connie (Connie Mitchell), Black Angus (Angus
McDonald), and MC Double D (Daimon Downey), three very different characters bonded by a
riotous sense of fun. Their origins lie in the hugely successful club night Sneaky Sundays, thus they
make music imbued with frolicking nightlife energy but also flecked with sing-along radio-friendly
1980s electro-pop.] - http://www.sneakysoundsystem.com/

final RANT of 2008.

This year wasn't the best, it wasn't the worst. I learned and grew---as did you. Professionally I'm not where I want to be. Though I enjoy some aspects of my job, I'm nearing the end of my stint. I loved it! I learned a lot, met some great people, and made some life long friends. The next move is still in the air, I can't see it, but I know it's there. Personally, I built stronger friendships with my close friends, I even met some new ones. Friendships, like any other relationships have their ups and downs and sometimes you just have to realize that sometimes it's just not worth it. Letting go was one of the key themes in the film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button---GREAT MOVIE by the way. It's all you can do sometimes and I made the resolve to do it. In terms of romance, I dated a bit but nothing spectacular came from that, such is life. I have clear concrete goals for 2009, some great opportunities, and twenty two years of life experience under my belt. It's all about the journey, ya know. I'm just here for the ride. I won't bore you with anymore else. LOL.

the movement.
