“Soles of Fire” MP3

Photobucket
The semi-secretive super group known as Chauffeur came through The Levi’s®/FADER Fort
NYC last Saturday looking like The Specials, all done up in tailored suits and sharp collars and
ready to pump out some mellow dance music. Due to flight schedules and the fact that they have
but one song, however, they only played for like eight minutes. What an eight minutes though!
Sheila E cover HELLOOOO. The one song that is theirs, it turns out, is a special ditty cooked up
for Gucci’s Icon-Temporary pop-up stores as they unveil the boat-sneaker designed by Mr
Ronson himself, so prepare to feel like spending a lot of money as you listen to this. Ronson has
that kind of mind power.

My World [Album Review]

Lee Fields And The Expressions + My World
So I was milling around L5P last week with Dominique after work.
She was searching for Halloween costume options and I just wanted
to waste some time before I went home. We went into Criminal Records,
she thumbed photography magazines and I perused the isles looking for gold.
Just as I was about to abandon my efforts I stumbled across Fort Knox in a
sleeve. I've been trying to find the Lee Fields record for a few months now
and there it was a used copy (in great condition for $5.50. I brought it home
and let it sit for a few days. Yesterday evening I finally got a chance to sit
and listen to the entire record from start to finish. Vocally, Lee Fields sorta
sounds like a mix of James Brown and Al Green. It's vintage rhythm and blues.
It's a heartbreaking record. It's great for a night on the couch with a few
friends and a few bottles after a bad breakup. If I were to suggest any one
song off of this (incredible) album I'd say "Honey Dove". It's your favorite
artist's favorite love song. The titled track is also definite stand out.
I think it's one of the better tracks on the album. This album is mellow,
emotional, smooth, well crafted and cohesive. It's a good record to have on hand.
It has my vote. I'm convinced.

**press release**
Atlanta, GA - October 16, 2009: - Famous for launching the most outstanding and innovative marketing campaigns, Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons, in collaboration with GIANT Magazine, presents the “Sole Series” Campaign! GIANT and Baby Phat have embarked on a unique multi-media program that will engage the audience by integrating readers’ experience with Baby Phat through print, digital, special event and mobile initiatives. Performing live at Underground Station, a division of Genesco Inc., for part three of the Sole Series in-store tour is hot new pop singer-songwriter Priscilla Renea.

The bright, colorful and clever Priscilla Renea has come a long way–from her home computer where she’d upload her original, catchy songs to YouTube (over 5.8 million views and counting!) to the storied roster at Capitol Records. Her hit single ‘Dollhouse’ is blowing up at radio and is an anthem for relationship independence and self-confidence with the fiercely sung hook “I ain’t a Doll! This ain’t a Dollhouse!”. Her full-length debut album Jukebox is aptly named, for it reflects 21-year-old Priscilla’s wide-ranging musical sensibilities and the scope of her talents.

Priscilla, a resident of Atlanta, will perform outside the Underground Station store at the Gwinnett Place Mall, 2100 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA, at 5:00 p.m. on October 23rd, 2009. For this highly anticipated event, fans will have the opportunity to meet the Atlanta native and preview tracks off Jukebox, slated for a December 1st release.

Lupe likes em HOT.

[check out this article from BallerStatus.com by By Allen Starbury]

Although superstars like Kanye West and Jay-Z have collabo'd with him and co-signed him, they aren't Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco favorite rapper of all-time.

However, the artist he says is might surprise you.

In a message posted on his official MySpace page (MySpace.com/LupeFiasco) last week, Lupe revealed that revealed that he's created a new song, specifically for the upcoming "Twightlight" film, "New Moon," which he says is inspired by his fave "rapper" -- Anthony Keidis of the rock band, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"The song basically deals with the chaotic love story that takes place between the characters," the rapper said of "Solar Midnite," the track he created for the film. "It's more on the rock side of my musical catalog and comes straight from my die hard fanhood of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Keidis, one of my FAVORITE RAPPERS."

According to Lupe, he was asked by the team behind the film to create a track for them. So, he was able to preview an unfinished version of the film to draw inspiration, and then went to work.

"They invited me to an early screening of the unfinished film from which I pulled different elements that I thought would translate into a great song," explained Lupe. "I pulled in vocalist and bassist Graham Burris and acclaimed musician Matt Nelson to help fill it out my vision musically and joila 'Solar Midnite' was born."

The "New Moon" soundtrack is available on iTunes now.

Where the Wild Things Are
{my thoughts}

Photobucket
This past weekend I went to Atlantic Station Regal Cinema to see "Where The Wild Things Are"
directed by Spike Jonze. I've been waiting for this film for months, literally. It's been something
I've really been looking forward to and I wasn't disappointed--but I was surprised. I don't want
to ruin the film for anyone planning to see it but it wasn't what I expected. It wasn't a "kids
movie" it was a movie about a kid. Max's character was dynamic and emotional. His struggles
both internally and inter personally are universal. As an adult watching it I found myself really
connecting with him. If you've the read the book you have a pretty good idea about the
movie--the script was fairly true to the original story. The movie is very cerebral. I spent a lot of
time thinking about the significance of the "Wild Things" and what they meant to the story. After
the film I came to the conclusion that each Wild Thing was a manifestation of Max's emotions.
KW seemed apathetic and she always wanted to run away, Carole was fear and rage rolled into
one, and the others all had a specific character traits that connected to some emotion that Max
felt at some point prior to his arrival on the island. Mind you that's my theory and if anyone
wants to grab a coffee and chat about yours I'm totally down for that, LOL. Visually this film was
incredible. Spike Jonze brought these gigantic creatures with faces on their mothers' could love
from the pages of the book to flesh and bone. I was amazed by their ability to move, jump, run,
and frolic. Not to mention their ability to emote; their large unique faces weren't stationary
masks, I could feel them acting. I really enjoyed the film. I'm looking forward to getting the DVD
and watching all the behind the scenes material. Check it out sometime this week, it's worth the
money.

The single most hilarious part of this video occurs at 3:57, Miss Piggy stomps one of her co-stars.
I remember this video getting heavy rotation on MTV back when I was but a high schooler.
Another GREAT, GREAT, GREAT Weezer video is "Island In The Sun".
Spike Jonze directed it. Nuff said, huh.

Steph Jones: LIFEtape: Gravity REVIEW

Lost in space with no way home young artist, Steph Jones just disembarked his space craft
and is wandering planet MoCity. He's been charged with the task of delivering his heart, soul
and thought through melody and discover the true purpose of gravity. Steph is now on a quest,
he must re-route the soul of music (which has been sucked out of earth) so he can
redistribute it back into the universe.

Steph Jones has really brought something refreshing, fun, honest and genuine. Mr. Out of the
Ordinary straddles the lines of rhythm and blues and pop. His voice is soft gentle, he croons each
song with a unassuming boy next door quality that comes across beautifully. He's the kind of guy
that will steal someone's girl with a mere wink & a smile.

Songs I think you'll really like:the lead single (or so I hear) "So Delicious". It's a fun song, very
catchy and quirky. I also enjoy "A Girl Named Hollywood" it's a narrative about a young girl
who moves to L.A. to chase her dreams and enroute she takes some wrong turns. It's hot. I'm
quite fond of "Get Me Started" it's fused with a little 50's pop, 80's rock, R&B...It's pretty
funky. Of course everyone loves "Mr. Ordinary" the song that seemed to start it all. The
Michael Jackson inspired "Shooting Star" is hot too. Oh and I can't forget "Gravity"
(he covers John Mayer).

Wonder if he accomplishes his mission???
check out the mixtape and show him some love!

N.E.R.D.'s "Maybe"

N.E.R.D.'s sophomore album "Fly or Die" was a record that helped me define myself.
I was seventeen, on my way to college and I was totally clueless about who I was.
The one thing I knew about myself was that I was completely enamored by N.E.R.D.'s music.
I was a pupil in the school of alternative hip'rock and I took copious notes.
The voice, melodies, rifts, lyrics, theme, and feel felt so fresh and invigorating.
I could not stop listening to this record. I'm at work right now knee deep in paper work and shit.
This video popped into my head so I decided to play the album.
A few tracks in I felt a sudden surge of nostalgia mixed with optimism and glee.
I feel 17 again. For me 17 is curious and new. 6 years ago, I was 17 and I would
give anything to be 17 again if just for one more day.

Solange in Honey Mag.

Photobucket

"I love this spread." -chase.

Whenever I’m asked to define today’s Honey girl, my quick, canned response is: “We’re more Solange, than Beyonce.” Now don’t get me wrong, Honey hearts Queen Bey (the supernova keeps us perpetually entertained and inspired) but we tend to identify with the 23-year-old rebel — the adventurous, outspoken, risk-embracing, cuss-you-out-if-you-even-try-to-diss-her-sis, outrageous-ensemble-rocking singer/songwriter. And the list goes on:

  • Her tweets inspire countless midday outbursts of laughter (and plenty of RTs)
  • Her fashion-forward ‘fits send us into fits of envy (and reckless shopping sprees).
  • During our photo shoot, she insisted on climbing into an abandoned shopping cart (in sparkly leggings and a Gordon Gartrell-esque top).
  • Even though the sun called it quits, she refused to leave until the last shot was perfect. (There was no way she was bouncing before rocking the vintage Christian Dior party frock!)
  • Her playlist had us jamming (and Googling names of the bands we didn’t recognize like the beguiling Grizzly Bear, of Montreal, Chairlift, and Theophilus London).
  • She was actually amused (and slightly interested) when she detected the pungent smell of “mixed greens” wafting from someone’s bag…

We hope you enjoy gawking at her gorgeous, weave-free mug as much as we enjoyed shooting it.

You talked a little bit about your stages for fashion and philosophy but what would you say this stage is in your style evolution? What are you looking toward for spring 2010?
I think right now, I’m learning how to incorporate completely different extremes as to my last record, it was just like an overstimulation of extremes, which I love. Now, I’m learning how to have one more simple extreme or one more statement extreme, and learning how to blend those together. But you probably will still see me rocking animal print as I did the other day. Someone cracked up laughing and was like ‘Where the hell do you think you’re going with flannel, leopard and stripes?’ I was like ‘I’m going to tackle my day.’

Photobucket

It sounds like you guys have a good situation worked out there. I have to ask about dating. How’s that going?
It’s going… umm… that is definitely where I become the typical industry girl that says…

I’m married to my work!
(Laughs) I’ve been in this game way too long to expose that part because even if you have something good, it can be criticized and massacred, dissected. It may even start tension that wasn’t there. It’s really easy to assume with this new-age blog thing and Twittering. It’s just a tough situation.

Well, speaking of assumptions. I think a lot of people have been zeroing in on Twitter convos between you and a certain Mr. Wale, automatically linking the two of you together. Then we see Central Park photos…
Riiiight.

Whether we’re rooting for it or not… we just want to know.
Well, he’s definitely not my boyfriend.

Well, we can cross that off the list.
No, I just stated that he’s not my boyfriend, but we are good friends. I have worked with him in the past and I think he’s uber-talented. I think he’s really smart and really creative. And I respect his art. We have a mutual thing. We’re on the same record label and yeah…

We’re really excited about his album.
Yeah, I am, too.

I’m wondering can we expect any Solange appearances?
No, we had a song entitled “Fuck the Industry.”

Yes, one of our faves.
But no, we don’t have a song on each other’s record. We worked together on the VMAs. That went really well. We were trying to find the damn footage. Everyone only got to see a sni… not a snippet, I call it a ‘sni’.
