Video [Gamma Ray] I've listened to his new album Modern Guilt and I think it is pretty interesting. I think this video concept it very Avant-garde-- with some Warhol inspired elements. I LOVE how every time Beck releases new material it is completely different from his last album. He worked with Danger Mouse on this record. I encourage you all to check it out. It is very psychedelic and sixties sounding. Give it a chance. Below is a review from Rolling Stone.
Wednesday night I went to MJQ with some friends. Helen and I had dinner @ Papi's on Ponce, came to my place to chill for a bit then left the house around 10:15. The club itself is in a very clandestine location. I had a great time with Helen, Dominique, & Ryan. We started off at the main bar and jammed to some electronica, then made our way to the hip-hop room. The DJ was on his job. He played everything from Pharcyde to Pharrell. The drinks were very reasonably priced. The crowd is untrakable. The people are from all colors and creeds. Overall everyone is there to just get it. We stayed there until close. I'm definitely going back (and SOON).
I miss NO DOUBT. Sincerely. I miss them, I miss us. This video is amazing. It's about her desire to "settle down"--- versus her commitment to the band. She made her decision and she seems fulfilled. It was directed by Sophie Muller.
1. God Given Name Blues/Neo Soul driven declaration. Solange states her intentions, her methods, and her thoughts. Less abrasive than “Fuck You, Sign Sincerely” but with an equally strong message. The atmosphere on this track prompted me to light some incense. 2. T.O.N.Y. Clever. Emotional. Soulful. A total #1 Smash Hit. 3. Dancing in the Dark A little swing mixed with some light jazz and drums. Very reminiscent of earlier eras. 4. Would’ve Been the One This one is tied with T.O.N.Y. I love them both! I especially love her voice on this one. “and she was cool with just fooling around…” 5. Sandcastle Disco I think this was the perfect single to introduce Solange to the world. The video was crafted with a genuine creativity that I respect. I catch myself singing this one on my commute to work. 6. I Decided Another toe tapping good song. I think there should be a new revolution where people actually dance at the club. I’m not talking about doing an instructional dance spouted out from some random rap song, I mean some real hardcore “git-down”. 7. Valentines Day “Those Kisses & the Got DAMN Gifts!” :) 8. 6’O’Clock Blues I’m almost positive this one is dedicated to her son (I’m prolly wrong). A very nostalgic track, beautiful sentiment (if I’m right). 9. Ode To Marvin Another reason why I like this album Solange’s ability to reflect an old school sound with contemporary appeal is uncanny. 10. Told You So Not my favorite, but it is a quality track. 11. Cosmic Journey This is my wander track. When I take my arbitrary sabbaticals from life, I usually have a song or a few songs that I listen to. This has just been added to that list. 12. This Bird I definitely sense some influence from artist like Zero 7 and TelePopMusik. I think this is a salient track that makes a bold statement. 13. I Decided (Part 2) Same song, totally different feel, I feel like a Beatles groupie when I listen to it. 14. ChampagneChronicNight Cap THE shit. I loved the version with Lil Wayne but Solange definitely makes this track. I know this one will be a fan favorite.
The Legendary King of Music: Prince (no not Michael Jackson, yeah I said it--some of yall are gonna shoot me) showed up at Janelle Monae's show in L.A. last night. Though he didn't catch her performance, they talked for a bit in his car. Prince apparently offered her some sound career advice. This is huge. (source)
If there aren't enough reasons to get on Solange's list. listen here. "Would've Been The One" IS THE ONE as far as I'm concerned. Retro, funky, clever, and arranged beautifully. Her album drops next week. I haven't heard a song I didn't like. DAMN! So far we've got: Sandcastle Disco, I Decided, T.O.N.Y, Cosmic Journey, & Champagne Chronic NightCap!
Thanks Branden for randomly finding this! Apparently Chester French read my blog about them. I have to admit I was floored. That was an AWESOME way to brighten my day. Here is the article. Scroll down to see my mention, its near the end.
With the fall semester in full swing, I know there will be some swinging college parties to come. I hope they turn out like this video: diverse, jumping, and dripping with debauchery. Lady Gaga is roche' as Jacob and I would put it. She's scorching hot, the song is super catchy, I enjoy her voice. I like her glam rock/David Bowie-esque style.
snippet from her myspace: "When Lady Gaga was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. And, she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit."
"I could'a been in love by now if it wasn't for Tony...& he wasn't just a regular guy, T.O.N.Y.'s actually "The Other NYght", Oh I, I could'a been in love by now if it wasn't for T.O.N.Y..."
I really dig this tune. I've been listening to it for about a week or so now and it made it's way from my home pc to my mp3 player and now it it nestled comfortably on my work pc. I can't wait to get that album. check out her blog.
Like most of the artist I enjoy, the Black Kids are slept on. They are such a cool band and I'm really into them for some odd reason. I don't know what I like most about them. Their music is rockish/sockish/robotish. I don't know how to properly explain it. I just enjoy it. "Partie Traumatic" is a something you'd browse Urban Outfitters listening to...It's very classic, but trendy. Lyrically their all over the place, and I enjoy seemingly arbitrary content. "I'm Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You" their lead single is a perfect example. Lead singer, Reggie, sings "you are the girl, that I've been dreaming of every since I was a little girl." Reggie explains that "it was just a way to fuck with peoples heads". A long standing rock n' roll trend/tradition. The album is 10 tracks, very good. I give this album a B-. My favorite tunes from this album>>>> LOVE "Hit The Heartbrakes" "Listen To Your Body Tonight" "I'm Making Eyes At You" "I've Underestimated My Charm (Again)" "I'm Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You" (below is the video) I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance with You
Did I mention how much I love Creative Loafing, if I didn’t, I just did--so zip it. Seriously, I found this article about the birth of the Wondaland Arts Society, home of my favorite inspirational guru, songstress, artist, droid, and business woman Janelle Monaé. I won’t cut and paste, but here is the link. Don’t you just love this picture though ***do do do do do do do do…*** article: How Janelle Monaé Charmed P. Diddy (& put Wondaland on the Map)

Britney Spears is my ultimate guilty pleasure. Through the meltdowns, marriages, harsh criticisms, paparrazi attacks--- shit through hell or high water I'm always down for Ms. Spears... i love this performance from the fountains, the song, choreography, even the lip-syncing. It's Britney BITCH.
Krispy Kreme (the makers of those tempting delights of which we will not speak) has come up with an innovative way for the working class to enjoy an allday vacation--for their toes at least. This is just ingenuity at it's best. (source)
I love the elephant in the background by the way... This leaves me with so many questions though... Will Britney perform? Will it be good? Will I watch the VMA's this year after I ranted about how horrible last years show was? Who the hell is Russell Brand (and who does his hair? i love it!) MTV VMA's September 7th @ 9:00 p.m.
I've been a little busy...What with training last week and me temping this week--I haven't found the time to sit down and really crank out some good blogs. Fret, you shouldn't. I will be back to normal on Thursday because that's my last day temping her, and it is my birthday as well. I turn the big 22. Awesome right...I know. Anyway I do have a few quick things to say:
1. Janelle Monae's Album METROPOLIS suite 1: The Chase is out today. I listened to her on Atlanta's V103 yesterday morning. It was awesome to hear her songs being played on the radio. I remember this time last year going to her independent album release party/performance. A performance that was so incredible that it actually inspired me to create this blog. Get her freaking album, seriously.
2. ....actually I think thats all I had to say for now.
‘Ology’ comes from the Greek word logos, meaning the “study of” something. Chaseology on a basic level means the study of Chase. Not necessarily me as an individual, rather the things I’m inspired by. I have a divine appreciation for musicians, designers, artists, producers, directors, writers, and poets who give of themselves---offering something layered, unique, and bright. I’m inspired by so much on a daily basis the possibilities are boundless, though music stands at the forefront, I firmly believed anything can inspire. Art helps me appreciate the world, and encourages me to explore its different dimensions. This blog is my means of honoring and sharing the individuals whose creative works I exalt.
