Solange on Paper [Mag]

The first time that I probably realized, 'OK, this is not a stereotypical black girl moment,' I was in the fourth grade... I went to a record store and bought all these Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple records," recalls Solange Knowles with a laugh. "I remember coming home and blasting them in my room, and my mother being like, 'That's devil worship music!'"

Knowles is tucked sweetly, if sickly, into the corner of a banquette in the restaurant of a W Hotel in Manhattan, nursing a mean cold or flu -- "I don't even want to tell you what I think I have, because you'll be like, 'Let me sit back'" -- but every bit the professional, she has shown up for the fight, ready to answer whatever questions I might have in an effort to further promote her new record, SoL-AngeL & the Hadley St. Dreams, with the aim of not merely getting people to buy it, but to understand it... and to understand her.

Sipping chamomile tea, wearing a white Armani sweater draped over her impossibly small shoulders, Armani velour jeans and shiny white patent leather jazz shoes, she looks something like a beautiful, frail bird whose wings have been flapping much too fast of late. Far from the vibrant soul-queen persona she affects in videos and public appearances (and the accompanying pictures here), today Solange is decidedly subdued and the lips are un-glossed -- not for nothing, neither. In the past two weeks, she's jetted from Paris to New York to Bermuda and back to New York, performing, doing photo shoots and press, filming a video, and being a mom to her 4-year-old son, Julez. "The problem is that I haven't had just one night or day to really just rest," she says, the need for rest practically pulsating from her body. Knowles insists, though, that after this interview, and another performance the next day, she's going to take a break. When I ask her why she works herself so hard, she explains, "I come from a family of workaholics. Both of my parents have hustler spirits. So whenever you grow up in that kind of household, you know, it's just a hustler spirit -- work, work, work. It's hard to know anything else." .... For the Full Article Click Here.

Solange - T.O.N.Y.

I can dig it.
I actually love it.
[Sans her playing in her hair while she pees on the stick
I know, i know, it's a video.
Still, I wanted to give her some antibacterial wipes.]
This is my favorite Solange song, I'm glad it's a single.

What Hadley Street Dreams Are Made Of...Solange.

1. God Given Name
Blues/Neo Soul driven declaration. Solange states her intentions,
her methods, and her thoughts. Less abrasive than “Fuck You, Sign Sincerely”
but with an equally strong message. The atmosphere on this track prompted
me to light some incense.
2. T.O.N.Y.
Clever. Emotional. Soulful. A total #1 Smash Hit.
3. Dancing in the Dark
A little swing mixed with some light jazz and drums.
Very reminiscent of earlier eras.
4. Would’ve Been the One
This one is tied with T.O.N.Y. I love them both!
I especially love her voice on this one.
“and she was cool with just fooling around…”
5. Sandcastle Disco
I think this was the perfect single to introduce Solange to the world.
The video was crafted with a genuine creativity that I respect.
I catch myself singing this one on my commute to work.
6. I Decided
Another toe tapping good song. I think there should be a new revolution
where people actually dance at the club. I’m not talking about doing an
instructional dance spouted out from some random rap song,
I mean some real hardcore “git-down”.
7. Valentines Day
“Those Kisses & the Got DAMN Gifts!” :)
8. 6’O’Clock Blues
I’m almost positive this one is dedicated to her son (I’m prolly wrong).
A very nostalgic track, beautiful sentiment (if I’m right).
9. Ode To Marvin
Another reason why I like this album Solange’s ability to reflect an old
school sound with contemporary appeal is uncanny.
10. Told You So
Not my favorite, but it is a quality track.
11. Cosmic Journey
This is my wander track. When I take my arbitrary sabbaticals from life,
I usually have a song or a few songs that I listen to.
This has just been added to that list.
12. This Bird
I definitely sense some influence from artist like Zero 7 and TelePopMusik.
I think this is a salient track that makes a bold statement.
13. I Decided (Part 2)
Same song, totally different feel, I feel like a Beatles groupie when I listen to it.
14. ChampagneChronicNight Cap
THE shit.
I loved the version with Lil Wayne but Solange definitely makes this track.
I know this one will be a fan favorite.

Solange Knowles Interview:NewNowNext NOISE

http://www.newnownext.com/2008/06/13/index.html

Justice is the business, Solange has great taste in music and she actually puts forth some effort when creating her image and music. I like her because she speaks well, that's such a rare quality.

Eye Decided!

I Decided to give her the props she deserves.

I Decided - Solange
People are full of surprises. So for the
past couple of weeks I've been dodging people's
posts about Solange Knowles and her new material.
I figured it would be wack. I shouldn't discount
people like that because each time I do, I'm proved
wrong. Somehow I listened to her song "Sandcastle Disco"
and I was floored. It was so so very dope, very reminiscent
of the 60's & catchy. I was so smitten by this track
that I downloaded it and added it to a mixtape. Last
week I found another track by Ms. Knowles: "I Decided"
and to my delight I read that this was her single and
saw some behind the scenes shots of her making the video.
I never thought it, but I can't wait to get her new album
when ever it is released. I'm a fan. Talent definitely
runs through their veins.

the movement.
