Weekend Update:
This weekend was pretty nifty.
I watched a lot of movies that I'd been meaning to see.
Hung out with friends.
Went to the Mall.
Had breakfunch on Sunday morning with my writing partner.
Had dinner with my mom Sunday (today).
Good Weekend.
Revolutionary Road:
F*cking good movie. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were mesmerizing in this film.
It was intensely emotional and raw. When they fought I felt like one of their children,
listening to them scream and destroy each other with tears welling in my eyes.
It's the mainstream equivalent to Baby Boy set in the 1950's---sike. It's good as hell though.
The Secret Life of Bees:
made me cry.
twice.
I don't cry.
period.
movies rarely make me cry.
this one did.
nuff said.
Doubt:
Meryl Streep is Sister Aloysius Beauvier.
It's Meryl Streep! She killed this part.
VIOLA DAVIS owned this movie though, she was incredible.
Twilight:
it was cool...didn't blow me away.
i enjoyed it though.

This CHARMING MIXTAPE
Earlier I was kinda disappointed in my current playlist. Then like a meteor this mixtape slammed into my bedroom window destroying most of my personal belongings, shattering my world and giving me a fresh start on life...Ok maybe that didn't happen but THIS MIXTAPE is so f*cking crazy. You want to know how I know it's good. Well, it's 1:47 a.m. and I have work tomorrow. My sole reason for staying up is to listen to this entire mixtape. I want to be cognizant and fully engaged in this exhilarating listening experience. Theophilus London, I must admit I slept on him for some months now. I'm kicking myself in the ass because a few weeks ago I was desperately looking for music just like this and I gave up on my search. It's electric & savage but soft and milky @ the same time. It's hip but not quite ster, it's hop but no where near pop. I think it'll be the soundtrack for the next three weeks of my life. If you don't have this mixtape stashed somewhere download it above.
Check out Theophilus London on Myspace & Vimeo.
My track of choice is definitely: AQUAMILITA (& COLD PILLOW)

NEW MUSIC: U dissappoint ME.
So I've listened to The Dream - Love VS Money & Keri Hilson - In a Perfect World and I'm not impressed. The Dream's album is basically an alternate version of Love/Hate (including the innovative album title). Don't get me wrong, I like the music! It's just that I anticipated a certain mystique, a little musical magic and all I got was cheap parlor tricks. "Right Side of Your Brain" is my favorite song, by far. Overall the album isn't bad. If you're not familiar with Dream, definitely check it out. There are lot of top 20 hits on it. It's very very mainstream & "radio worthy" and reminiscent of his debut . I got a few flashes of deja vu during a few tracks. Since Dream has distinctive sound (his use of certain sounds and drums) at some points it sounded like I was listening to a slightly different version of a song I've heard before. I give it a C+.
Keri Hilson's album is hard to judge. From the top it's not my taste. I'm not a huge fan of the hip-hop/ R&B hybrids. I grew up on the stuff and after so many years it gets exhausting. Keri Hilson is mega talented and skilled with the pen. This album didn't supremely disappoint me but it didn't knock me down. I like "Energy", "Slow Dance", "Make Love", and "Knock You Down". The rest of the record just did not move me. One song that is particularly wretched is "Get Your Money Up" featuring Trina & Keyshia Cole. It immediately gave me the perma-stank face. It's a club beat paired with a slew of assorted urban colloquial phrases (that don't translate to anything in particular I guess they thought it sounded good? *shrugs*). The only thing I appreciate is that it's called "Get Your Money Up" and not "Get Ya Money Up" because the later would have been the straw. I think the production she used overpowers her lyrics and vocals . I give it a C.

Exclusive Interview with DJ DIBIASE
[check out myspace.com/djdibiase]
If you live in Atlanta and your between the ages of 20-24 you've probably been to Broke&Boujee.
If you haven't, pretend you have if only to avoid people figuring out just how boring you truly are.
Since you've been to Broke& Boujee then you know the music never disappoints, ever.
Why? Well because Fadia Kader had great taste in music (of course) and she has dope DJs.
One of these great DJ's goes by the name of DJ Dibiase.
I sat down with this twenty year old talent and we chopped it up recently.
I found out what he's listening to, how he got started, and where he's going.
I asked him about him opening up for Diplo at Florida State. He explained that it just sort of happened:
"I had just turned 18, I went down there to help a friend move in, some how I got
on with Robert Carter, he told me about a house party and it happened. It was probably one of the
best parties I've been to, the police shut it down but they were cool about it."
I read on his myspace that he changed his name from DJ Tomahawk to DJ Dibiase. I asked him
what prompted the name change and how he came up with both. He explained that he wanted
to represent Atlanta and the Braves came to mind thus DJ Tomahawk.
When decided to change it he choose Dibiase after the great Ted Dibiase (he's a big wrestling fan).
Interesting facts, he got his start doing chopped and screwed music. If he had the opportunity to
hit the road and pick his tour mates he'd want Little Brother, Joe Scudda, Cypress Hill, Cam'ron
& The Roots. Right now he's really digging the Drake Mixtape. He explained that he values
women's opinions especially when it comes to music. He gave props to the black youth in Atlanta
and expressed his excitement about this growing movement of movers and shakers taking over.
I asked him "What's the most important thing you've learned so far and where did you learn it?"
He said: "I learned to appreciate what others like and to go out on a limb sometimes." He cited
DJ Queen Roots as an example, she taught him all about dance hall.
I asked him the infamous Break (hate it), Bury (dig it, save it for future generations),
Buy (can't wait for it to drop.
Break - Single Ladies
Bury - Bilal's Love for Sale
Buy - the new Outkast
Finally, I asked him what could look forward to from him this year?
"More out of county and out of state gigs, I want to get this show on the road. I want to keep
moving with the mixtapes, keep people intrigued and continue to perfect my craft."
He wanted to give a special shout out to Ian Ford, Fadia Kader, Fray, Metropolitan Studios, & Jamad

MY Exclusive Interview with Last Offence
Where are you from originally?
St. Louis, I moved to California in 2004, about 5 years ago
Fan Question:
Nic from Atlanta – In previous interviews you named Bjork as one of your favorite artist, will we ever hear any electronica influences in your music?
Never say never, I would like to do that. I don’t know though, I’ll take it how it goes and how I feel. I see myself going in the direction of like the Massive Attack type shit, with a little Bjork influences but still staying true to my sound as an emcee.
What’s your creative process like? Do you write verses then go into the studio or vis versa?
Basically I listen to a bunch a different beats all the time. When I’m getting ready to start a project I’m listening to like thirty beats a day until I find something that I want to get on. Then the beat starts talking to me and the lyrics just come. It’s very rare that I do lyrics without having a beat first, it’s happened before though. Matter fact the last verse on “Very Bad Things” parts of that was coming to me without the beat and once the beat came I was like lets throw that in.
What mainstream or underground artists/ producers would you like to work with?
As far as producers I would like to work with Danger Mouse and Gnarls Barkley. It would be cool to fuck with Just Blaze, definitely DJ Priemiere. Shit it’s a bunch of mother-fuckers, I love Mad Lib. Let’s see and yeah and I wanna work with Bjork but she won’t return my phone calls—If you see her tell her to call me back *laughs*.
I know you went to film school and you were involved in that arena for a while, if you weren’t rapping and or decided not to rap anymore would you go back to film or would you go a different route?
All my life I thought I was going to do movies, I thought I was going to be a screenwriter and what not. But, when I turned 16 or so I was really into hip-hop and it was always about the flow for me more than the beats. So I knew that a part of me was into that, but I went for the movie thing. First off, I was gay so it was like no point in me trying to rap because that wasn’t going to happen. So whenever the music would come up in me, I would push it down and repress it and try and do the movie thing and focus on that. I don’t know if read this anywhere but my brother is a rapper. So I had a lot of familiarity with the studio even before I started rapping. I would go to his sessions and what not. But you know, I went to film school, graduated, moved out here. I was working a Fox, I worked a Paramount for a little bit and the music thing kept calling me. *laughs* I would write songs and rhymes and think to myself “the fuck you writing for?” Then I stumbled upon the Homo Revolution and I was like well fuck, shit why not? I mean and you know I was a younger dude when I trying to push music to the side. A lot happens to you when you get older you think in different ways. I’m a totally different dude now. I don’t really care if I make it, I just do this because it’s the only time I feel alive. *laughs* Like now I’m just giving music away for free because I just don’t care, but at some point, I do have to care. The next mixtape is kind of about this, Not for Nonprofit. I do have to start making something soon just if to make more! That’s kind of the theme of the mixtape.
I know you changed your name from Napier to Last Offence, where did the name Last Offence come from?
Napier was like when I was—I wouldn’t call myself like a straight rapper when I was Napier but I wasn’t out. So I knew I had to recreate myself. I came up with a few names and Last Offence was one of them. I stuck with that one because when I was going to come to the game I was only going to do one album and just leave. It was going be like this offensive “piss everybody off” themed record. So my name was heavily related to that. You know, the first offence is the slap on the wrist and then the last offence is the chair. *laughs* Honestly, I kind of wish my name was something different now, it’s too late to change it now. I thought of some new names and I was like “fuck, I should’ve went with that.”I like the nicknames though. *laughs* (i.e. Lasto)
Fan Question:
Donald from Atlanta - “So Magical” is my favorite song, was it inspired by someone in particular or was it strictly fantasy?
It was inspired by someone in particular...*LAUGHS*...
Break (You're tired of hearing it), Bury (You love it, you want to share it with future generations), and Buy (It’s coming out soon and you gotta have it)?
Break:
Hmmm*laughs* Anything with T. Pain—nah let me think—*laughs*Yeah, just go ahead and put T. Pain.
Bury:
Life After Death, mos def.
Buy:
Walle
What can we expect from your upcoming album, Red Rhetoric?
You can definitely expect more in depth shit, I’ve been holding back on getting too personal especially on mixtapes. Expect for me to get really honest with it. Red Rhetoric is a term that I created that defines all the shit you shouldn’t say. I’m saving the most offensive and most personal for the album. In terms of sound, I’d say it’s hardcore with a few kind of poppy records. I’m going to let it all hang out and get kind of nutty, you know. It’s a little bit out there, the first single is crazy it’s got this heavy drum knot with electric sound over it.”
What was your coming out process like?
I came out to my mother when I was 18. I had a fight with my brother about me being gay. I went to my mom, woke her up *laughs*. I told her my brother said he would basically disown me if I was gay and I was like well I’m gay. She was really cool and I stopped being angry. *laughs* Once I told her, I didn’t tell anybody for a while. Then once I moved out the L.A. I told all my friends and then all my cousins first. Then I got tired of saying the words so I just let word spread. *laughs* My one regret is that I’ve never said the words to my father. I’m not afraid to tell nobody, you know what I mean if he asked me then it would come out easy as pie. I’d be like yeah. But to bring it up and try to talk to him when we already have strained communication as it is not easy. And I must say since I’m older I don’t have as much of a need for people to know. You know, when you’re younger it’s like “I need to come out, everybody needs to know so I can feel better and ladidadida...” But when you get older and you pay your own bills and you got your own life you don’t really give a shit. I don’t hide anything but telling people isn’t an emergency.
Are you still coming to Atlanta in May?
Hopefully, I’m trying come for Atlanta Pride with In The Life Atlanta. I won’t be coming with Mondo Homo in May. I really want to come to Atlanta! I’m definitely trying to do as many shows as possible. I am close to finalizing a show in Jersey.
So when is the mixtape coming out?
It’s coming in March.
What’s the one thing that you want the world to know about you as an artist?
I’m not a just gay rapper, I’m an artist more than anything, I’m basically sharing my human experience and that’s what really matters.
I love this guy!

Sad Isn't It...
Of course by now you've heard singer Michael Jackson announces that
he is set to play ten live concerts at the London O2 Arena in July, which
he announced at a press conference at the London O2 Arena, Thursday,
March 5, 2009. The singer also stated that this would be his final
performances in London. (Associated Press)
Is it me or is his appearance mortifying?
Apparently 50 is the new 500.
He looks mummified and feable.
I mean seriously. He is but a shell of his former self.
He bores me so...The same outfits, songs, choreography.
I'm sure he'll wow the crowds by rattling his brittle bones
and grabbing his crotch.
Florals for spring; groundbreaking.
[sidenote: Typically I don't bash here but this idle idol worship needs to stop.
People were apparently clamoring and fighting just to get a glimpe...
Puhlease. ]

Gooood Morning WORLD!
So after my metaphysical retreat yesterday evenning I decided to sit down and listen to
Zero 7's The Garden (2006). My obsession with their 2001 release Simple Things
is unnatural. I've had The Garden for a while and I've just never listened to it all the way
through. It's a different vibe but it stays true to their signature sound. I'm using it to wake
myself up, you'd think DBE (downbeat electronica) would have the opposite affect. On the
contrary, I feel alert and ready. I'm headed to work, just thought I'd share.

Float 4 Free.
There are so many different types of music I listen to on a daily basis. Typically, when I walk to
work I try to find some high energy tracks to get me in the mood for productivity. Then on the
walk home I frantically search for songs to soothe my chi. When I get home I play whatever
comes to mind. Today I got home and decided to put myself into a self induced coma. I decided to
lay flat on the floor in my bedroom, listen, and breath. After a few minutes I slipped into a deep
trance like state. My soundtrack: Télépopmusik’s Genetic World. I felt so relaxed and at
peace. I haven’t felt like that in a long time. It almost felt like mitosis if that makes any sense?
My thoughts started out scrambled and muddled and through the course of my trance they
aligned and synchronized. It was a genuinely rewarding hour long odyssey. I recommend this to
all who seek a little slice of heaven every now and then. It’s free, low fat, and revitalizing. I have
no proof, but I'm pretty sure that I was levitating at one point.
